History
The Group has a long and distinguished history. An enterprising Scotsman, Thomas Leesels Dallas OBE, following experience with Christian Salversen and then Scottish Life Assurance Company set up the business in Bradford in 1919.
Many of his early clients were from the wool textile trade, Bradford being the worldwide focus of this industry. From this base the business grew steadily by acquiring and retaining top quality commercial clients from all sectors of industry and commerce.
After a number of years, during which the Company gained valuable insights as part of a multinational insurance broking group, the present management organised a buy out in 1989, confident in their ability to provide an even better service as a major independent insurance broker.
This has proved highly successful and today the Group consists of three companies in Bradford, London and Lerwick handling insurance business for clients worldwide, with a Group turnover in excess of £40,000,000. The strong client base includes multi-national groups and major quoted companies, as well as smaller businesses and individuals.
The Group is no longer a family business, but is now a professional partnership of shareholding Directors (including one Dallas’) this is a structure which is ideal for a modern insurance broking business which relies so heavily on the dedication and enterprise of individual insurance professionals, acting as a team to provide full-range expert insurance advice.
We have a particularly strong presence in the marine market.
From the earliest days, T L Dallas has not only acted as a broker, but has operated underwriting agencies for many leading insurers. Some of the covers we arrange are unobtainable elsewhere, and other brokers use our placing facilities. A range of specialised protections have been developed for yachts, and recreational craft both private and pleasure, and commercial.
The large cargo account continues to develop strongly, and our special combined transit and stock covers for merchants and manufacturers are market leaders.
